We take reasonable care for the health and safety of students, support workers and anyone else affected by our work, in line with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
- Face-to-face sessions take place in venues with suitable facilities, fire exits and first aid, normally university premises or public spaces. Support workers follow the venue's own health and safety and fire procedures.
- Venues are risk-assessed before first use, including sensory factors (noise, lighting, crowding) that may affect a student's comfort.
- Accidents, incidents and near misses are recorded and reviewed. Serious incidents are reported as required by law (RIDDOR).
- Support workers take breaks in line with working time rules. Sessions over 8 hours include a declared break, which is never charged to DSA.
- We hold employer's liability insurance (£5m), public liability insurance (£5m) and professional indemnity insurance (£1m), as the NMH Register requires. Our insurance is arranged through Simply Business.
